How many did you know, that I started subcribing to this magazine when it was called Scale Auto Enthusiast Originally Made by Highlands Publishing? It was founded in 1979 when model companies were going down hill. Then this company bought shoetened the name to just Scale Auto. Then later they changed it to Scale Auto Magazine. How many of you know who bought what company?Ertl bought amt first then mpc.By 1994Erlt got rid of the mpc logo. However, they put all tireof mpc kits in amt kits, and that ruined everything..as for Monagram, they paid $5,000,000 to Mattle to separate and focus on making good models. This happened in the early eighties.NextRevell ,moved out of Venice,California, and move in with Monagram. It was in 1983 That Ed Big Daddy Roth, came back to help retool His three biggest customs. The Outlaw,Beatnic Bandit, and Mysterion. It was also the start of Hotrod series models. But something happen, and they had to find someone to keep the companies going. One big help for the longest time was Benny Smith, the maker of Crayola .the Revell_Monagram will not admit this fact, because, called themTheir original name was something like Gearbox Hobbies. All this information, was in scale Auto Enthusiasts on the very front pages. Many of my rarest kits, were bought byScale Auto Enthiasts,os other companies ,Iwrtoe for lists of theor models. How many remeber Fantastic Plastics.Herold,And I did business for quite a while. Now the valuable model company Hobby Heaven Closed its doors in 2008.Hobby Heaven, seen,it all.It was in Great Lakes ,Mic higan, were allthe vetererns custom cars were at atmt,in Detroit. How many know what happen to the Aurra Model Company?Monagram bought it,however,in 1985,a train derailment destroyed allthe molds. So how do we have Aurora models today?I caled the company Playing Mantis The maker of Jonny Lightnings. They were very nice, and evealed their secret. They would buy models at flea markets and other places, then they would make a male and female mold of a existing kit,in mint condition. Then they would lazer print the box art,and creat the original box sixe as the original. This is how Polor Lights, models were founded. But they also deciced the keep the original Aurora name, for Green Hornet,Batmobile and others. Then a big diecast company, with pros, wanted,to get rid of the competition, because, now,Jonny Lightning was making, detailed 1/18 hotrods,in diecast. So they offered the owner $8,000,000.,and that was the end of Playing Mantis. The Company was called Race Champions, but then they shotened their name to RC2.Icontacted one of lab company techs,in Indian who makes all those Round2 Models. He told me RC2 changed their name to encompass all learning and education toys. Round 2
Is a move to have these lab techs lease all amt mpcall the molds,to repair peices, that existed,in the original molds. In factin the history of amt,it is the first time,we willsee Padded Piecrust slicks, instead the out of date bluesteak specials.Actually last year,The came out with the original mpc Box art of the Fire Tuck, when the Creator, restored The Fire Truck,at the March 2010 Detroit Autorama. This was a Ridler Award winner when it came out.Lat year,he was the Bulider of the Year. They had to make new Piecrust slicks in restoring kit.But this Round2 techs did more,They came out with a limited,Fire Truck,in Tin Case, with Photo Etch Wire Wheels and Painted rear Torque Thrusts. By the way did you know in1991 Monagram made their fist new kit,all new toolling,of the 1958 Caddy Convertible. Then they followed up,with a 1959 Chevy Impala.Next they made a new Caddy 1959 Hardtop. All in 1/25 Not 1/24.So most of your socalled Revell badged models should acually,Monagram badged.. Revell-Monagram Is letting Revell take allthe credit, but it was,Monagram, who always had the best tires of rubber, and real white wall slicks, not plastic. So am I not worthy, for you to you buy from me.Iknow, model cars, veteran customizers, and their work.Should not a man,who knows history, about the model companies, and even the roots of Scale Auto Magazine,be given a chance?
